From the Apple Watch to the Garmin Lily, you can truly find one that does almost anything (and that looks really good while doing so, too).įitbit remains one of the category’s biggest names, beloved by tons of athletes and wellness experts. But in the 21st century, the typical fitness tracker does much more than just keep tabs on your daily mileage. Once upon a time, these trackers weren’t much fancier than your typical old-school pedometer-you know, like the ones your mom would wear during her mall walks. In short: If you don't care exactly how many steps you've taken today or want to measure your heart rate over time, a Fitbit probably isn't worth it for you.Are you an obsessive step counter? If you’re dedicated to hitting that 10,000 steps a day mark, odds are you wear some type of fitness tracker. But they're a waste for someone who estimates those details and doesn't care about taking the time to track them. Those who thrive on information (like how many calories you've consumed and how far you've walked) will love what a Fitbit offers. (Keep in mind that Fitbit devices are not approved for medical purposes, though.) On the other hand, if you need to keep an eye on certain statistics for a medical condition, then having organized and detailed information at your fingertips can be a fantastic resource. If you don't care about any of those specific fitness tracker details and are happy with just getting some exercise in, a Fitbit might be a waste for you. Most of the devices can tell you exactly how far you ran, how high your heart rate goes during a workout, and how active you've been during a day. If you're in the latter camp, you might have no interest in everything a Fitbit offers.
